Smoking Gun PR
I successfully completed two weeks placement at Smoking Gun PR (Manchester) in which I got a taste for social media and PR whilst gaining an understanding of how this could link to my journalism degree. I was tasked with writing material for the blogs of several brands including: Feel Good Drinks, OvenPride and Silent Night. This allowed me to practice adapting my style of writing to suit alternative needs. Aside from this I was also tasked with blogger outreach and aided in the planning process of a brand launch night.
My role within the team was to work alongside the features editor to source content for publication. This was challenging, as it was out of my comfort zone however in this role I came to understand the importance of social media and SEO when outsourcing and developed my interpersonal skills when contacting potential interviewees. I was able to learn about a diverse range of subjects in a short period of time and towards the end of my placement I was able to secure three telephone interviews with selected individuals to gather content which the press office then went on to use.
